The OSTAR is organised by the Royal Western Yacht Club (RWYC). The “amateur” event was raced as The OSTAR (meaning “the Original STAR”) from 2005. The original Single-handed Trans-Atlantic Race was conceived by Herbert “Blondie” Hasler in 1956 and has run every four years since, becoming firmly established as one of the major events on the yachting calendar.
